TACAS Supports  'China On Tour' Exhibit

                                  at Exploris Museum in Raleigh, NC

Artifacts from 7,000 years of Chinese innovation are featured in this exhibition

April 3rd – August 1st, 2004

 

This four month long exhibit about Chinese culture and ancient innovation is a rare and extraordinary cultural and educational exhibit held in Raleigh. There are eight master artisans demonstrating their artistry and hundreds of artifacts revealing Chinese contributions to astronomy, navigation, architecture, paper making, printing, textiles, embroidery, weaving, porcelain, ceramics, etc.

 

TACAS is proud to be part of the Exploris Community Advisory Committee that is helping to plan this exhibit. TACAS members in this Committee are Ellen Ko, Monling Liao, Joanne Shang, Jane Shih, Nancy Lan-Chien Tallant, Sam Tie and K. John Wei.

 

Many TACAS members helped the upfront exhibit installation and provided additional information to the exhibit setup and the volunteering training manual.  They are Houmin and Anne Chang, Monling Liao, Evan and Stella Sun, Shin Wu, and others.

 

The China On Tour Exhibit Opening ceremony starts at 2pm on Saturday, April 3.  It will be followed by performances presented by TACAS and Raleigh Chinese Language School (RCLS).  

China On Tour in calligraphy 

1. 'Ode To Spring', a traditional ribbon dance, performed by TACAS Arts Center

2. 'Prosperity Blossoms', a traditional feather-fan dance, performed by RCLS Dance Class III

3. Chinese Yo-Yo, performed by RCLS Yo-Yo Class

4. Lion Dance, performed by TACAS Lion Dance Troupe

5. 'Reflection', a traditional Chinese dance, performed by RCLS Dance Class III

 

Additional performances and traditional Chinese art demonstrations presented by TACAS and RCLS are 

 April 10 - Traditional Chinese Music Ensemble and Musical instruments demonstration

 May 1 - Traditional Chinese Dances, performed by RCLS Dance Class III

 May 15 - Traditional Chinese Dance, performed by RCLS Dance Class II

 May 30 – Traditional Chinese Music, performed by Youth Symphony

 June 5 - Chinese Seal Carving and Chinese Knotting demonstration

 

TACAS also helps Exploris Museum recruit volunteers as translators, greeters and tour guides. An information session was held on February 28th for TACAS members and RCLS parents and teachers. Many TACAS members and youths have gained volunteer training and signed up for various volunteering opportunities for this exhibit.
